Purpose: This screen allows the user to interactively specify plotting parameters and to instantly view the requested graphics.
RAMS Interactive NCAR Graphics Screen Functionality: The features of this screen are described in Table 4-13.
Menu | Remarks/Namelist Variable Cross Reference |
SCREEN ENTRY/EXIT | Entry point to the RINGI subscreen is via the TFS screen button. To exit the screen, click on the menu File button and select Quit. |
File menu button
Load option subscreen |
Entry point to this subscreen is via the menu File button and then selecting the Load menu item. This subscreen allows the user to set the path, file name, and internal file header name to be searched on to select the desired input files for display using the NCAR graphics package. |
Options Menu:
General Settings subscreen
|
Entry point to this subscreen is via the menu Options button and selecting the general menu item. This subscreen allows the user to set the title for the output display. To save the title entered, click on the save button. To exit this subscreen and return to the main menu, click on the Done button. |
Options Menu:
Contour Settings subscreen |
Entry point to this subscreen is via the menu Options button and selecting the Line/Filled contours menu item. Optionally, a colorbar can be plotted to the side of the plot if you are using filled contours. To exit this subscreen and return to the main menu, click on the Done button. |
Options Menu:
Wind depiction settings subscreen
|
Entry point to this subscreen is via the menu Options button and selecting the wind vector/wind barb menu item. This subscreen allows the user to select the plotting interval for the wind vectors or barbs to every grid point, every second grid point, every third grid point, etc. For the wind barbs, the scaling can also be selected to specify what the wind barb components represent. For example, a specification of 20-4-2 refers to a 20 m/s wind velocity represented by a flag, a 4 m/s velocity represented by fill barb, and a 2 m/s velocity represented by a half barb. Click the Save button to save the options selected; to exit this subscreen and return to the main menu, click the Done button. |
Tools Menu
Slab Statistics subscreen
|
Entry point to this subscreen is via the menu Tools button and selecting the Slab statistics menu item. This subscreen finds the minimum, maximum, and computes mean value of a parameter for the last plot that was produced. To exit this subscreen and return to the main menu, click the OK button. |
RAMS Grid Selection Panel | The Grid selection button allows the user to select which of the RAMS grids to be displayed. The Grid button then displays the grid number selected. |
Time Panel | The Time slider changes the time at which the RAMS forecast results will be plotted. |
Slab Panel | The Slab panel allows the
user to set the type of coordinates to be used in the displays (Sigma,
Cartesian, or Pressure units) and also allows the user to select whether
the displays are to be horizontal plots or vertical cross section plots
by selecting either the x-z or the y-z cross section buttons.
The Height slider bar enable the user to set the height of the slab to be plotted.. |
Parameters Panel | |
Primary field Panel | The Primary field panel allows the user to select which variable is to be plotted. Variables are divided into 3-d, 2-d, or soil groups. The user can choose how the variable is to be contoured, either filled, tiled, or line type of isopleths. Contour settings for the isopleths are set in the text boxes for the Min, Max, and Increment (Inc). The set, reset, and default buttons allow the user to either set the values desired, or to allow the NCAR graphics to compute the contour settings. |
Winds Panel | The Winds menu on the winds panel allows the user to specify a depiction of the wind to be overlayed on the primary field. This can be set to barbs, vectors, streamlines, or none. |
Overlay Field Panel | The overlay field button allows for the plotting of an additional field on top of the primary field and the wind depiction. Contour settings text boxes are as described above for the Primary field Panel. |
